Monitoring the activitis of the barges
Research Background
The research is aimed primarily at
a) empowering the activists and local community members involved in the campaign to stop the mining of sand in coastal Koh Kong,
b) continuing with the gathering of important information, data, evidence, etc, related to the malpractices of the sand mining companies and relevant government institutions;
c) monitoring the activities of the barges / ships involved in the mining; and
d) exposing not just the finding of this research to the public at large but also the impacts of the mining on the environment and on the livelihoods of the local fishing communities.
This will be achieved through a combination of activities, such as the presence on-site of our activists and partners from the local fishing communities, conducting surveys in these communities together with partnering groups, as well as exposure in mainstream and social media of the main results of our research.
